The way appliance repair used to be
No ice, small cubes or leaking? We repair fridge ice makers and dispensers fast, with upfront pricing and OEM parts.
A refrigerator ice maker depends on water supply, freezer temperature, sensors and a small motor all working together, so when ice production stops, the cause isn't always the ice maker itself. MSJ Appliance Repair diagnoses the whole system to fix the problem right. We repair in-freezer ice makers, in-door ice makers on French door refrigerators and ice and water dispensers on side-by-side models.
Common causes: A failed water inlet valve, frozen fill tube, clogged water filter, low water pressure, an ice maker that's switched off, a faulty ice maker assembly or a freezer that isn't cold enough.
How we fix it: We test water flow, the inlet valve, freezer temperature and the ice maker module to find the failure.
Common causes: Low water pressure, a clogged or old water filter, a partially frozen fill tube or a failing water inlet valve.
How we fix it: We restore proper water flow and replace failing filters or valves.
Common causes: A leaking or overfilling water inlet valve, cracked fill cup, misaligned fill tube or damaged supply line.
How we fix it: We find where the water is escaping and replace the damaged component.
Common causes: Ice clumps bridging in the bucket, a failed auger motor, a broken ice crusher, a faulty dispenser switch or a stuck door flap.
How we fix it: We clear the jam, test the auger and dispenser controls and replace failed parts.
Common causes: Some French door models are prone to ice buildup in the in-door ice maker, often due to door seal problems, air leaks or a failed compartment heater or fan.
How we fix it: We repair seals, heaters or fans to stop ice from building up again.
Common causes: An old water filter, stale ice sitting in the bin, or food odors absorbed by the ice.
How we fix it: We recommend replacing the filter, cleaning the bin and checking the water line.
Common causes: Some sounds are normal, but grinding or clicking may point to a failing auger motor, ice maker motor or water valve.
How we fix it: We inspect the motors and valve and replace worn components.
Common causes: A water inlet valve that doesn't shut off completely or a faulty ice level sensor or shut-off arm.
How we fix it: We test and replace the valve or level sensor.
Make sure the ice maker is switched on (check the wire arm or the "ice off" setting on the control panel).
Confirm the water supply valve is open and the line behind the fridge isn't kinked.
After replacing the water filter, dispense a few gallons of water to clear air from the line.
Check that the freezer is at 0°F. Ice makers slow down or stop if the freezer is too warm.
Break up clumped ice and empty old ice from the bin.
Let a factory-trained technician take care of it. We'll diagnose the problem, give you an upfront price and use OEM parts whenever available. Safety first: unplug the refrigerator before reaching into the ice maker mechanism, and keep hands away from the dispenser auger and crusher.

Air may be trapped in the water line, or the new filter may not be fully seated. Dispense water for a few minutes to purge air and make sure the filter locks into place. If ice still doesn't come back, the inlet valve or ice maker may need service.
A newly installed or repaired ice maker usually needs several hours, often up to 24 hours, to produce its first full batch. It's a good idea to throw out the first few batches.
Small or hollow cubes usually mean not enough water is reaching the ice maker, often because of a clogged filter, low water pressure, a partly frozen fill tube or a failing inlet valve.
Usually, yes. Many ice maker problems come from affordable parts like inlet valves, filters or the ice maker assembly. We'll give you an upfront price before any repair.
