The way appliance repair used to be
Not heating, sparking or completely dead? We safely repair over-the-range, built-in, drawer and countertop microwaves.
Microwaves contain high-voltage components that are dangerous to work on, so repairs should be left to a trained technician. MSJ Appliance Repair provides safe, reliable microwave repair throughout the greater Sacramento area. We service built-in, over-the-range and countertop microwaves, microwave drawers and convection microwave ovens, including heating problems, door switches, turntable motors, touchpads, control boards, vent fans and lights.

Common causes: A failing magnetron, high-voltage diode, stirrer motor or cooling fan.
How we fix it: We diagnose the noise and replace worn components.
Check the outlet and breaker, and try resetting power by unplugging for a minute (if the plug is accessible).
Make sure the door closes fully. The microwave won't run if a door switch isn't engaged.
Keep the waveguide cover (the panel inside the cavity) clean of food splatter.
Check that the turntable and roller guide are seated correctly.
Make sure the control lock isn't turned on.
Let a factory-trained technician take care of it. We'll diagnose the problem, give you an upfront price and use OEM parts whenever available. Safety first: never open a microwave's cabinet. The high-voltage capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even when the microwave is unplugged. Stop using a microwave that sparks or smokes.

Often, yes. Over-the-range and built-in microwaves cost more to replace and install, so repairing a failed magnetron, door switch or control board is frequently the better value.
No. Stop using it and unplug it. Sparking can be caused by a damaged waveguide cover, metal objects or damaged interior coating, and continued use can cause more damage.
A fuse that keeps blowing is usually a sign of a failed door switch (interlock) or a high-voltage component problem. The underlying cause needs to be repaired.
